奧斯卡·雅各布生，瑞典著名漫畫(huà)大師，1898年出生于瑞典哥德堡。9歲時(shí)成了孤兒，13歲時(shí)靠給別人做工謀生，先后干過(guò)伐木工、鐵匠學(xué)徒、火車爐工。1919年開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)繪畫(huà)，并在著名的《每日新聞》及其它報(bào)紙上陸續(xù)發(fā)表作品。1920年10月17日開(kāi)始在《星期日——尼斯》幽默周刊上連載長(zhǎng)篇連環(huán)漫畫(huà)《怪老頭》，自第二年起每年出版一個(gè)單行本，由此在全世界范圍內(nèi)產(chǎn)生影響，成為歐洲漫畫(huà)寶庫(kù)中的經(jīng)典之作。1925年至1926年，雅各布生在希臘、意大利旅行期間，創(chuàng)作了《怪老頭漫游記》。《怪老頭》于1922年由美國(guó)統(tǒng)一新聞特稿社發(fā)行，更名為《不愛(ài)說(shuō)的山姆》，但在1936年后競(jìng)為當(dāng)?shù)芈?huà)家捉刀代筆，甚至加上背景和對(duì)話。1944年出版《怪老頭二十五年佳作選》。晚年，雖身患絕癥，仍致力于創(chuàng)作另一部漫畫(huà)——《阿布·法凱爾》，連載于《我們》報(bào)，第二年結(jié)集出版單行本。1945年年底去世。
